History
| This magnificent mansion
was built in the XIXth century
by the Bligny family.
On its left, a second building was used as stables. ********** During the XIXth century, a young ladyBligny married a man named Artus. In 1897, a son was born to them : Charles Artus whose portrait you can admire in the hall of the mansion. (below)
Charles Artus (1897-1978) was a famous sculptor of animals, pupil of Navelier and follower of the famous sculptor of animals Pompon. In 1920, Charles had an atelier built (by the architect Mauge) which he used for his exhibitions. It is worth walking round the corner to the street behind the manor (3mn) to admire the magnificently carved wooden façade of his atelier. Unfortunately, it is not opened to the public. ********** |
